Frequently Asked Questions

The answers to everything La Paulee

If you can't find the answer you are looking for, please reach out to us and we can provide additional information.

What wines should I bring?

Anything your heart desires! While our love for Victorian wines and Burgundy is apparent, you are not restricted to these two regions. Bring along that very special bottle that you can't stop thinking about, whether from Barossa, Sonoma, Bordeaux.

Everyone is making an effort to promote themselves through some of their great bottles of wine as they know the audience will understand the meaning of such wines. If there is a day for it, it’s definitely at La Paulée Melbourne.

Do I get control over who drinks my wine?

Absolutely! We will not be taking your bottles away from you. All guests will take their own bottle or two with them to their seats. You can choose to have a sommelier assist you in preparing your wines, or you can take the liberty of doing it, by chilling your whites in a cabinet or ice bucket (you also can ask to have an ice bucket brought to your seat to chill the wine next to you).

When you are ready to drink your wine a sommelier will assist in opening your bottle then hand it right back to you. You may choose to pour you and your friends a glass, or if you see a friend across the room you can head over to them and pour a glass.

If you choose to pour a glass to a new friend on the day, then its more than likely they will pour you a glass straight back.

Can I bring larger format bottles?

Larger formats such as magnums and Jeroboams are welcomed, as they make the sharing and the impression even better!

Will I get to taste many wines during the event?

With every guest bringing 1-2 bottles of wine, along with Victorian wineries bringing a case to share, there will be wine flowing all afternoon. Expect to taste over 20 to 30 wines during your lunch. That is if you are pro-active and welcoming others to the discussion.

What if I can't finish my glass?

We encourage responsible drinking at this event and hope everyone knows to drink in moderation. At every table there will be a spittoon for guests to pour or spit out their wines. When pouring your wines we recommend a small pour and not full glasses every time. This is a marathon not a sprint!

Why do I have to bring my own wine?

In the spirit of La Paulee de Meursault, we encourage community sharing and celebration of diverse wines. To have the chance to discover wines you may never have tried, bringing your own favourite cellared wine is the perfect opportunity to surround yourself with fellow enthusiasts and show off your collection, keep learning, and be exposed to many new wines.

What wineries are attending?

Feel free to head over to our Wineries page to check out the winery partners for 2023. This includes some of the greats such as Bannockburn Estate, Yabby Lake, Mount Mary, Ten Minutes by Tractor, Giant Steps, and Dominique Portet. From Burgundy, we’re welcoming Pierre-Henri Rougeot from Domaine Rougeot in Meursault.
